What is searched

  • Every message in every public channel you are a member of.
  • Private channels you belong to.
  • Your own direct messages.
  • File names, though not file contents.

Search never returns something you could not otherwise read. That is the correct behaviour and it is also the explanation for the most common confusion in the module: a colleague quotes a message you cannot find, because it is in a private channel you are not in.

Can admins search everything?

The product does not expose a global search across private conversations.

Does search include deleted messages?

No.
